This weekend Grouse Mountain opened its Screaming Eagle chairlift to the “midstation.” Normally the Screaming Eagle chair runs all the way from the bottom of the Cut to the top. The midstation is generally only used during “early season conditions,” and allows the top half of the Cut to be opened for skiing even if the bottom half does not have enough snow coverage. This winter has been particularly warm, and thus snow has been very lacking. The midstation setup consists of half of a cross-arm with supporting sheaves on Tower 7. Side Project: Grouse Mountain Skyride Availability
I haven’t had time to work on many side projects lately. I think I generally am most effective at programming when I have a long stretch of uninterrupted time (on the order of a few hours or more at a time), and I have found the same at work. These long stretches of time are difficult to find these days. However this was one opportunity that came up this week. Many of my side projects are born from automating repetitive manual tasks, and this was one of those.
Sea to Sky Gondola Lift Incident
On August 10, 2019 in the early morning, the haul rope on the Sea to Sky Gondola was discovered to have snapped. The gondola was not in operation at the time of the incident. I went to take some photos of the aftermath.
