Switching from Telus Fibre to Novus Home Internet Service

When I moved into my condo in Vancouver, the only fibre internet provider for the building was Telus. However, earlier this year, Novus installed their infrastructure in the building. And last month, I made the switch from Telus to Novus.

Novus is a Vancouver-based company that started providing fibre internet to condo buildings primarily in the downtown core, but over the years they have slowly expanded outside the peninsula to cover many more condo buildings throughout Metro Vancouver.

I was paying $70/month for Telus’s 1Gbps fibre internet service, but Novus’s offer was $50/month. Even though I had 8 months left on my Telus contract and thus had a termination fee, I decided to switch over. When I asked my sales representative, Novus offered to cover my Telus termination fee with a $15/month credit for 6 months, which made the switch worthwhile enough for me. I was excited to try Novus for a change.

I did call Telus to see if they could give me any better offer before signing up for Novus and they could not offer anything competitive. Ironically they started calling me after I had terminated my service, trying to win me back, but it was too late by that point.

I was impressed by the staff at Novus. Everyone I had contact with, from the initial sales rep to the technicians, seemed knowledgeable and were responsive to my inquiries. A week after installation my internet failed, and they dispatched a technician the next day to sort it out. I have not had any issues since then.

In terms of the service, the internet has been overall great. I can’t speak for the Novus Wi-Fi routers as I did not use them; I have my own UniFi Dream Machine which the technician hooked up directly to the Novus fibre terminal. The Novus internet experience has basically been what I expected based on reading about it online: reliable fibre internet at a reasonable price.

If you are thinking of signing up as a new customer, Novus has a referral program where both you and I could get a free month of internet. Feel free to contact me.
